Ludek Miklosko, the former West Ham United goalkeeper, has made the courageous decision to cease his cancer treatment, choosing instead to embrace a normal life. The 63-year-old, who played nearly 400 games for West Ham over eight years, remains a beloved figure among the club's supporters.
Currently serving as the sporting director at Banik Ostrava in his native Czech Republic, Miklosko was diagnosed with cancer three years ago. In a heartfelt statement prior to attending the recent match against Liverpool at London Stadium, he explained his decision: 'I have decided to discontinue chemotherapy because I want to live a normal life. I enjoy being surrounded by kind people, have my work, and am happy watching football, as this sport has been my entire life. I want to continue this as long as possible.'
He further elaborated on the side effects of chemotherapy: 'When they told me about the effects of chemotherapy, I realized that for at least six months, I wouldn't be able to continue my work or be with my colleagues, couldn't travel, and would feel sick. So, I said I don't want to do that. Many friends told me that if they didn't know about my condition, they would think I'm fine, which is great for me because I want to keep feeling good for as long as possible.'
During the match against Liverpool, Miklosko received a warm reception from the West Ham fans, a testament to his enduring legacy at the club.
