Mourinho Regrets Not Leaving Roma Before Dismissal
Jose Mourinho reflects on his decision to stay at Roma until he was dismissed, expressing regret and sharing his plans for the future.
Jose Mourinho, the former coach of Roma, has admitted his regret about not leaving the club before being dismissed in January 2024. In a candid interview with Corriere dello Sport, Mourinho reflected on the tumultuous year and the challenges he faced during his tenure.
Mourinho was replaced by Daniele De Rossi at Roma but quickly resumed his managerial career by signing a two-year contract with Fenerbahce, venturing into Turkish football. Speaking about the Roma chapter, he revealed, "I should have left earlier, before being sacked. After my dismissal, I wanted to say goodbye to the fans, but I feared it might create unnecessary controversies."
The Portuguese coach emphasized his love for football and his relentless passion for the game, stating, "I do not want to wait for the perfect opportunity. I accepted Fenerbahce because they genuinely wanted me from the very first day."
Mourinho also hinted at his aspirations to manage a national team in a major tournament, saying, "I want to lead a country in the Euro or World Cup, uniting a team as I have done with clubs before."
While he no longer follows Roma's matches, Mourinho admitted to keeping an eye on his former club Inter Milan, highlighting his enduring connection to Italian football.
