Emmanuel Petit Regrets Leaving Arsenal for Personal Reasons

Former Arsenal star Emmanuel Petit reveals his regret over leaving the club in 2000, citing personal reasons tied to his then-wife as a major factor in his decision.

Emmanuel Petit Regrets Leaving Arsenal for Personal Reasons

Emmanuel Petit, the French footballer who shone during his time at Arsenal from 1997 to 2000, has expressed deep regret over his decision to leave the club. During his tenure, Petit helped Arsenal win the Premier League and the FA Cup, forming a key part of the squad under Arsène Wenger.

Petit moved to Barcelona in 2000, a decision he now attributes to personal reasons linked to his marriage at the time. He was married to French actress Agathe de la Fontaine, but the couple separated two years later.

Speaking to Stadium Astro, Petit said, "It was because of a woman. I always admired Barcelona and Real Madrid, but I should have stayed at Arsenal. It was a mistake. Sometimes, you realize the grass isn’t greener elsewhere. When you’re loved, happy, and successful, you should remain where you are. If I could go back in time, I’d make a different choice."

Petit's candid reflection highlights how personal choices can influence professional careers, even at the highest level of football.
