Tottenham and Newcastle Compete to Sign Uzbek Defender
Premier League clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are vying to acquire Abdulkodir Khusanov, a standout defender from Uzbekistan currently playing for RC Lens in France.
Abdulkodir Khusanov, a 20-year-old Uzbekistani defender, has attracted significant interest from Premier League clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United. Khusanov, who currently plays for RC Lens in France's Ligue 1, has been impressive this season, featuring in 14 matches and showcasing his defensive prowess.
Standing at 186 cm, Khusanov joined RC Lens in 2023 and has accumulated 25 appearances for the club. Internationally, he has earned 18 caps for the Uzbekistan national team, including a recent match against Iran. Despite his defensive role, he has yet to score at the club or international level.
The competition between Tottenham and Newcastle to secure Khusanov's services is expected to intensify as the January transfer window approaches. If successful, Khusanov would become the first Uzbekistani player in Premier League history, marking a significant milestone for both the player and his country.
