Maresca: Chelsea's Transfers Are a Collaborative Process

Enzo Maresca, the manager of Chelsea FC, has clarified the decision-making process for transfers at the club, emphasizing the collaborative nature of these decisions. Speaking at a recent press conference, Maresca stated, "I work with the players daily, and my opinion is important, but it’s not just about me. Transfer decisions involve discussions with the management, technical team, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment with the club’s long-term goals."

When asked about ongoing transfer rumors, including Chelsea’s reported interest in Marc Guéhi from Crystal Palace, Maresca was diplomatic. "Marc is a great player, but he belongs to Crystal Palace. Right now, I’m focused on the defenders we have. There’s always speculation during the transfer window, especially when injuries arise," he said. His remarks suggest that while new signings are being considered, Chelsea is not rushing into decisions.

Maresca also addressed the team’s current injury situation and provided updates on key players. Romeo Lavia and Reece James have recovered and are expected to feature in the FA Cup third-round match against Morecambe. "Both players are available and will get some minutes to regain match fitness," Maresca confirmed. On the other hand, Wesley Fofana is set to be sidelined for 12 to 16 weeks due to a severe injury. Maresca noted, "Wesley is optimistic about recovering sooner, but we will monitor his progress carefully."

Regarding César Casadei, Maresca explained that the young midfielder’s situation remains under review. "César won’t be in the squad for now. The plan is to provide him with opportunities as they arise, similar to Ben Chilwell’s gradual return," he added.

Maresca’s comments reflect a balanced approach to Chelsea’s transfer strategy. While acknowledging the importance of strengthening the squad, he emphasized the need for thoughtful and collaborative decision-making. "It’s not just about signing players; it’s about finding the right players who fit the team and contribute to our objectives," he concluded.

As the January transfer window progresses, Chelsea fans will closely watch the club’s moves, hoping for reinforcements that can elevate the team’s performance in domestic and European competitions.
