Spanish FA Considers Legal Action Against Barcelona

The Spanish Football Federation may challenge Barcelona’s temporary player registrations, citing unresolved financial compliance issues.

Spanish FA Considers Legal Action Against Barcelona

Rafael Louzán, president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), has revealed that the federation is exploring potential legal action against Barcelona over the temporary registration of players Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor. The controversy stems from a decision by Spain’s Superior Sports Council (CSD) that allowed Barcelona to register the players despite unresolved financial compliance issues.

In a recent interview, Louzán stated, "Our legal team is thoroughly examining the situation. There has been significant discussion about this matter, and we are determined to act in accordance with the law. We have three months to proceed, and the CSD must provide further information. Depending on the findings, a new complaint may be filed."

The Superior Sports Council granted Barcelona temporary permission to register Olmo and Víctor just before the Spanish Super Cup final, ensuring that the players were available for selection in upcoming matches. This decision was made pending the outcome of ongoing investigations into Barcelona’s financial situation.

According to Louzán, the federation’s primary concern is the precedent set by allowing temporary registrations under these circumstances. "We are considering all options to ensure fairness and compliance with regulations. These decisions affect not only Barcelona but also the integrity of Spanish football as a whole," he added.

Barcelona, currently navigating financial challenges, has defended its actions, emphasizing the importance of securing competitive depth during a crucial period. The club argues that the temporary registrations were granted within the legal framework and should not be subject to further scrutiny.

With three months remaining for the CSD to issue a final ruling on the matter, the possibility of renewed legal action looms large. The Spanish Football Federation’s potential challenge could further complicate Barcelona’s efforts to stabilize its financial and competitive situation.

This development comes at a time when Barcelona is under intense scrutiny, with several ongoing investigations into its financial operations. How the club manages these challenges will likely shape its future both on and off the pitch.
