Christophe Galtier Wins First Trophy in Qatar
Former PSG coach Christophe Galtier leads Al-Duhail to a 2-1 victory over Al-Arabi, securing his first championship in Qatar.
Christophe Galtier, former coach of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), achieved his first title in Qatar by guiding Al-Duhail to victory in the Qatar Stars Cup final.
In the decisive match, Michael Olunga scored the opening goal for Al-Duhail in the 27th minute, followed by a stunning strike from Benjamin Bourigeaud in the 39th minute. Bourigeaud, who joined the club from Rennes in August, also delivered a standout performance as a key player.
Al-Arabi, featuring former PSG star Marco Verratti, managed to pull one goal back in the 55th minute through Isaac Lihadji, a former Marseille player. Despite their efforts, Al-Arabi could not alter the result.
This triumph bolsters Galtier's reputation in Qatar, where he has led Al-Duhail to the top of the league standings with 8 wins in 11 matches. Since taking charge in October 2023, Galtier has transformed the team, positioning them as strong title contenders.
Recent reports suggest Galtier is a potential candidate for the head coach position of the Qatar national team, and this championship further solidifies his candidacy.
