Hansi Flick Identifies Barcelona's Core Problem
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has pinpointed a lack of aggression and focus as the team's main issue amid recent struggles, rejecting fatigue as the root cause.
Hansi Flick, Barcelona's head coach, has identified a lack of aggression and focus as the key issues affecting the team's performance this season. Despite rejecting claims of player fatigue, Flick acknowledged that rotational strategies have been underutilized.
Barcelona, who began the season impressively with 14 wins in 16 matches, have now endured a slump, securing only 5 points in their last 6 La Liga matches. The shocking loss against Leganes prompted assistant coach Markus Sorg to call for deep reflection within the squad.
Flick’s staff emphasized that individual quality exists, but players must show greater intensity and focus throughout the matches. Notably, defensive vulnerabilities have been recurring, as Barcelona conceded 9 of their 20 goals in the first half, with early goals against teams like Rayo Vallecano and Osasuna highlighting the issue.
“We need a team that is 100% committed, not just operating at 85%,” Flick stressed. He expects Barcelona to impose their authority with and without possession while improving efficiency in converting scoring opportunities.
Flick concluded that the team must learn to perform under pressure every three or four days, maintaining top quality and intensity regardless of the packed schedule.
