McTominay: United Was My Life, but I’m Truly Happy Now

Scott McTominay, former Manchester United midfielder and current star of Napoli, has opened up about his summer transfer to the Italian club, emphasizing that his departure from Old Trafford was a mutual decision and made without any animosity.
McTominay, who grew up in United's academy and played 255 games for the club, scoring 29 goals, left for Napoli in a deal worth €32 million. Reflecting on the transfer, McTominay said, “Leaving United, where I spent my entire career, was not easy. It was a joint decision as there was an opportunity, and I felt ready for a new challenge. I am now focused on achieving success with Napoli.”
The 28-year-old midfielder has quickly become a key player for Napoli, scoring four goals in 15 appearances across all competitions. His leadership qualities and performances have earned him the nickname ‘McMaradona’ among Napoli fans, drawing comparisons to the legendary Diego Maradona, who is an icon in the city.
Discussing the support he has received in Italy, McTominay added, “It’s an honor to be compared to Maradona. Of course, no one can ever reach his level, but it motivates me to give my best for this team and its incredible fans.”
McTominay also spoke warmly about his final day at Manchester United: “Saying goodbye was difficult. I visited everyone to thank them and say farewell. United was my life, but I’m truly happy now and fully committed to Napoli.”
