Joselu Admits Leaving Real Madrid for Financial Reasons
Former Real Madrid striker Joselu reflects on his difficult decision to leave the club, driven by financial considerations for his family's future.
Joselu, the former Real Madrid striker, recently opened up about his decision to leave the club at the end of the 2023 season to join Al-Gharafa in Qatar. The Spanish forward described it as one of the hardest decisions of his career.
"Leaving Real Madrid was the most painful decision of my life," Joselu said after Madrid's Intercontinental Cup victory. "At a certain age, you have to think about your family's future and the experiences you've had."
Joselu made a significant impact during his loan spell with Real Madrid, scoring two crucial goals in the Champions League semifinal against Bayern Munich that helped Madrid secure the title. Despite his success, he opted to move to Qatar, where he reportedly earns a salary three times higher than his earnings at Madrid.
Now playing for Al-Gharafa, Joselu emphasized the importance of prioritizing his family’s financial stability over his career at the elite level. "It was a tough choice, but one I had to make," he added.
