Dietmar Hamann: Chiesa's Liverpool Move a Nightmare
Former Liverpool player Dietmar Hamann calls Federico Chiesa's transfer from Juventus to Liverpool a 'nightmare,' citing injury struggles and limited contributions.
Dietmar Hamann, former German football star and Liverpool midfielder, has labeled Federico Chiesa's transfer to the Reds a 'nightmare.' Chiesa, who joined Liverpool from Juventus for €12 million, has yet to make a significant impact, according to Hamann.
"This transfer has been a disaster," Hamann stated during a recent television appearance. "Everyone thought it was a bargain, but Chiesa has not been able to recover fully from a serious knee injury he suffered in early 2022, which sidelined him for nine months."
Chiesa has missed 14 matches this season due to muscular injuries, managing only 78 minutes of playtime. Liverpool fans and analysts have expressed concerns about his fitness and form, with Italian football legend Antonio Cassano also commenting, "What happened to Chiesa? He was one of the stars of Euro 2021, but now he struggles to play even 10 minutes in the Premier League."
Liverpool manager Arne Slot addressed the concerns, saying, "What Chiesa needs is time. It's challenging for a coach to provide minutes to a player who hasn’t played in five or six months because you’re unsure of what to expect."
Despite the initial excitement surrounding his arrival, Chiesa's injury troubles continue to hamper his adaptation to English football, leaving his future at Anfield uncertain.
