Santi Cazorla's Emotional Return to Arsenal After Seven Years

Santi Cazorla, the former Spanish midfielder, returned to the Emirates Stadium after a seven-year absence, where he was honored before Arsenal's match against Ipswich Town. The Gunners secured a 1-0 victory, moving up to second place in the Premier League standings. In an interview with Amazon Prime, Cazorla shared his emotions about returning: 'It's been many years, seven years without watching a game in this stadium, but I still have a different and special feeling. I'm happy to be here. I miss playing in this amazing stadium.'

Cazorla departed North London in 2017 after making 180 appearances for Arsenal. During his return, fans reminisced about the 'Little Magician,' chanting his name throughout the match. His former teammate and close friend, Mikel Arteta, now manages the team. At 40, Cazorla continues to play for Real Oviedo, having extended his contract until June 2025. Despite enjoying football and participating in 19 matches (16 as a starter), he is contemplating retirement.

Reflecting on his future, Cazorla said: 'After 20 years, I returned home, to my family and friends. It's a different but very special experience. I'm trying to finish my football career in the best possible way and enjoy every day. Returning to Arsenal? Yes, why not. This is also my home. I love this club and its fans. We'll see what happens in the future. I don't know yet, but I will definitely stay in the football world because I love it. We have to wait and see what happens.'

Throughout his career, Cazorla has played over 700 matches. He praised Martin Ødegaard as 'an amazing player and a great captain,' and referred to David Raya, Arsenal's Spanish goalkeeper, as 'one of the best goalkeepers in the world.' Regarding Arsenal's Premier League prospects, he commented: 'Mikel Arteta is doing an amazing job. Competing with Manchester City last season and now with Liverpool is tough, but the season is long, and they must keep pushing. I believe in them and think they're doing an incredible job. I hope Liverpool loses some games, and Arsenal can win the league.'
