Despite having one year left on his contract, the striker was shown the door as Mourinho began reshaping the squad.
The decision coincided with the arrival of Didier Drogba, who went on to become a legend at Stamford Bridge. Reflecting on the situation, Hasselbaink admitted, "It’s football, and I understand these things happen. But as a player, you always hope for a bit more respect and communication."
