Everton's Missed Opportunity: Haaland Rejected
Farhad Moshiri, former Everton owner, turned down the chance to sign Erling Haaland for just £2 million, a decision now seen as a massive mistake.
Farhad Moshiri, the former owner of Everton, reportedly declined an opportunity to sign Erling Haaland for a mere £2 million. This decision has now come under scrutiny as Haaland has risen to global stardom with Manchester City.
Speaking to BBC Sport, former Everton player Aaron Lennon revealed, “Haaland visited the club with Steve Walsh. He was introduced to me in the physiotherapy room, and we briefly spoke about his father. At that time, he was just 16, and Everton could have signed him for £2 million.”
Since joining Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund, Haaland has become one of the Premier League’s brightest stars, playing a key role in City’s back-to-back league titles and their Champions League triumph.
Lennon added, “Moshiri didn’t believe in Haaland’s potential, which led to Everton passing on the deal. Imagine what could have been if Haaland had joined Everton!”
