Guardiola's Dream Replacement for De Bruyne Fails

Manchester City's plans to sign Tijjani Reijnders as Kevin De Bruyne's replacement have been dashed as the player extends his contract with AC Milan.

Guardiola's Dream Replacement for De Bruyne Fails

Tijjani Reijnders, Manchester City's top candidate to replace the injured Kevin De Bruyne, has decided to stay with AC Milan. Reports confirm that the Dutch midfielder will extend his contract until 2029, doubling his salary to €3.5 million annually with additional bonuses.

Pep Guardiola, who recently extended his contract with Manchester City until 2027, had identified Reijnders as a crucial addition to reinforce his midfield. However, negotiations between Reijnders' representatives and AC Milan resulted in an agreement, ending City's pursuit.

The decision is a blow to Guardiola, as City continues to navigate a season affected by key injuries, including De Bruyne's long-term absence. Reijnders' remarkable performances in Serie A, including six goals in 20 matches, had made him a prime target for multiple European giants, including Barcelona and Real Madrid.
