Ancelotti Beats Xabi Alonso to IFFHS Best Coach Award

Carlo Ancelotti has been named the Best Coach of 2024 by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS), capping off an extraordinary year. This is the Italian coach’s fourth IFFHS award, following previous wins in 2007 with AC Milan and in 2014 and 2022 with Real Madrid.

Ancelotti secured the title with 268 points, beating Xabi Alonso, the current coach of Bayer Leverkusen, who finished second with 104 points after winning the Bundesliga. Pep Guardiola, a three-time IFFHS winner, claimed third place with 88 points.

The award recognizes a year in which Ancelotti led Real Madrid to five of six possible titles, including the Champions League, La Liga, the Spanish Super Cup, the European Super Cup, and the Intercontinental Cup. This achievement equals the record held by Jose Mourinho for most major titles in a single season.

Other notable mentions include Diego Simeone, who returned to the top ten for the 12th time, and Unai Emery of Aston Villa, who finished sixth with 10 points.

With this accolade, Ancelotti continues to solidify his reputation as one of football’s greatest tacticians.
