AC Milan Saves €10 Million by Dismissing Paulo Fonseca Before New Year

AC Milan terminated head coach Paulo Fonseca's contract just before the New Year, activating a clause that limits his severance pay to €5 million instead of €15 million, resulting in significant financial savings for the club.

AC Milan Saves €10 Million by Dismissing Paulo Fonseca Before New Year

Following a home draw against AS Roma in Serie A, AC Milan swiftly dismissed their Portuguese head coach, Paulo Fonseca, and appointed Sergio Conceicao as his successor. Despite two and a half years remaining on Fonseca's contract, a specific clause allowed Milan to minimize financial repercussions.

According to reports from Italian newspapers, including Tuttosport, Fonseca's contract contained a provision stipulating that if he were dismissed before January 1, 2025, Milan would only be obligated to pay his salary until the end of the current season. By terminating his contract on December 30, Milan limited Fonseca's severance package to €5 million, avoiding a potential payout of €15 million had they waited until after the New Year.

During his six-month tenure, Fonseca led Milan in 24 matches, achieving 12 wins, 6 draws, and 6 losses. His departure paves the way for Sergio Conceicao to take the helm, as Milan aims to improve its standing in Serie A.
