Severe Foul in Monaco vs. PSG Match Goes Unpunished

In a recent Ligue 1 encounter, AS Monaco's defender Wilfried Singo committed a severe foul against Paris Saint-Germain's goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. Singo's studs made direct contact with Donnarumma's face, causing deep lacerations that required ten stitches on his right cheek. Despite the severity of the incident, Singo did not receive a red card.

The incident occurred shortly after the 15th minute when Singo lost control during a play, leading to the dangerous collision. Donnarumma, visibly shaken, was substituted in the 22nd minute by Matvei Safonov. Notably, Singo had already been cautioned with a yellow card in the 14th minute for a foul on Désiré Doué.

Referee François Letexier deemed Singo's action as 'careless' rather than 'reckless' or 'using excessive force,' which would have warranted a yellow or red card under IFAB (International Football Association Board) rules. This interpretation has sparked debate among fans and analysts, given the injury's seriousness.

Despite the incident, PSG secured a 4-2 victory over Monaco, solidifying their position in Ligue 1. However, the match was overshadowed by concerns for Donnarumma's health and the officiating decisions.
