Wilfried Singo Avoids Ban After Incident with Donnarumma
Monaco's Wilfried Singo escapes suspension after a dangerous collision with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, sparking criticism and debate.
Wilfried Singo, the Monaco defender involved in a serious collision with Gianluigi Donnarumma, escaped disciplinary action following the incident during a Ligue 1 clash against Paris Saint-Germain.
The collision, which left Donnarumma with significant facial injuries, occurred unintentionally but raised concerns due to its severity. Despite widespread criticism, the Ligue 1 disciplinary committee announced that Singo would not face suspension for the challenge on Donnarumma.
The defender did, however, receive a one-match ban due to accumulating yellow cards, including one issued earlier in the match for a foul on PSG forward Desire Doue. The committee emphasized that Singo's ban was unrelated to the incident involving Donnarumma.
In the aftermath of the game, Singo publicly apologized to Donnarumma, stating on social media: “My action was not intentional, but I later saw the extent of his injury. I wish him a speedy recovery.”
The decision has sparked debate among fans and analysts, with many calling for stricter penalties for dangerous plays, regardless of intent.
