Fonseca Yet to Find Balance at Milan
Former AC Milan midfielder Riccardo Montolivo critiques Paulo Fonseca’s inability to establish balance at Milan despite a strong Champions League performance.
Riccardo Montolivo, a former midfielder for AC Milan, has expressed concerns over Paulo Fonseca's struggles to bring consistency to the team. Speaking to Sky Sports, Montolivo stated that Milan's domestic performance in Serie A has been underwhelming, even as they show better results in the Champions League.
Montolivo explained, "Milan’s current standing in Serie A is not satisfactory. While their results in Europe are more promising, Fonseca has not yet found the right balance for the team after four months in charge."
He also pointed out Fonseca's challenges in connecting with key players in the locker room, adding, "It seems he has not established strong relationships with the most influential players in the squad. This has left Milan in a state of uncertainty."
Currently eighth in the Serie A table with 23 points, Milan trails sixth-placed Juventus by five points, who hold the final qualification spot for the Conference League. Milan’s inconsistent form includes a defeat against Atalanta, a draw with Genoa, and a win against Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League.
Montolivo concluded by suggesting that judging Fonseca based on immediate results would be unfair: “Evaluating him solely on today’s match against Verona would not be just.”
