Lautaro Martínez: 'Now It's Time for Thuram to Score'

Lautaro Martínez, with 10 goals in 20 matches, is experiencing a significant phase in his career at Inter Milan. Recently, he has been positioned slightly deeper on the field, playing behind Marcus Thuram. In an interview with Corriere della Sera, Martínez shared insights into this tactical adjustment and his collaboration with Thuram.

Martínez explained, "Marcus plays more centrally and advances further, but this isn't something we've specifically planned; it stems from our understanding on the pitch. Last year, he often dropped back or moved to the flanks. Now, it's his turn to score more goals, and I've embraced my new role."

Reflecting on his early career, Martínez recounted a pivotal moment at age 15 when he was rejected by Boca Juniors after a week-long trial. They cited a lack of speed and strength. This setback led him to consider quitting football. However, an opportunity with Racing Club reignited his passion, setting him on the path to professional success.

Martínez also touched upon personal challenges, revealing that during his time at Racing's academy, his brother battled a serious illness for two years. Remarkably, his family chose not to inform him until his brother had fully recovered, allowing Martínez to focus on his burgeoning career.

Expressing gratitude towards former Inter coach Antonio Conte, Martínez acknowledged, "I learned a lot from Conte at Inter, and I know his Napoli is strong. Now, with Simone Inzaghi, we're continuing on our path. I believe it's the right direction and will lead us to great achievements."
