McDermott Appointed Head Coach of Cobh Ramblers
Michael McDermott, former assistant to Carlos Queiroz, has been named head coach of Cobh Ramblers in Ireland, aiming to elevate the club's performance.
Michael McDermott, a seasoned coach from Belfast, has been officially appointed as the new head coach of Cobh Ramblers, a club competing in Ireland's First Division. McDermott, 50, has an impressive coaching pedigree, having worked with notable managers like Carlos Queiroz on the national teams of Iran and Qatar.
McDermott's track record includes leading Glentoran to domestic success, winning the 2020 Irish Cup and securing European qualifications. He takes over from Gary Hunt, who guided Cobh Ramblers to an eighth-place finish in 2024. Before Hunt, Shane Keegan had brought the team to a third-place finish in 2023.
Expressing his enthusiasm, McDermott stated, "From my initial interactions with the club and its fans, I sensed something special here. I am excited to build a talented team that the city can be proud of and create memorable milestones for the Cobh community."
Club chairman Bill O’Leary praised McDermott’s appointment, emphasizing his global experience and ability to raise the club's profile. "Michael’s credentials at both national and club levels speak for themselves. His expertise will undoubtedly enhance the performance of Cobh Ramblers," O’Leary said.
McDermott looks forward to collaborating with the club's dedicated players, staff, and volunteers to achieve success in the upcoming season.
