Gasperini Celebrates Atalanta's Top Spot During Christmas
Gian Piero Gasperini praises Atalanta's remarkable Serie A run, finishing 2024 as league leaders after a dramatic 3-2 victory over Empoli.
Gian Piero Gasperini, head coach of Atalanta, expressed his joy as his team ended 2024 at the top of the Serie A table following a thrilling 3-2 win against Empoli. This marked Atalanta's 11th consecutive victory, elevating them to 40 points, ahead of other title contenders.
Speaking in the post-match press conference, Gasperini stated, "This win showcases the balance and strength of our team, both mentally and physically. Despite challenges like conceding from a throw-in, a contentious penalty, and an injury to Retegui, the team persevered."
When asked about Atalanta's goals for 2025, he added, "Finishing the year as leaders in such a competitive season is extraordinary, especially after winning the Europa League. We aim to maintain our growth and approach the new year with optimism. For now, we’ll cherish this achievement."
Gasperini also highlighted the resurgence of Charles De Ketelaere, whose two goals against Empoli were crucial. "There’s no magic—just hard work," Gasperini said. "De Ketelaere is utilizing his physical and technical abilities to excel. His performance tonight was exceptional, not just for his goals but for his overall contribution."
